In a nation-wide survey undertaken by Wine Business Magazine, Capel Vale was voted in the “Top 10 Hottest Cellar Doors”.
Capel Vale’s cellar door and restaurant truly reflects the family and wine values behind CEO Simon Pratten’s management.
The cellar door is well thought out with a depth of interesting opportunities to create an experience for visitors that is rewarding and informative and delivers subtle education.
A one stop shop, it is the only one in the area that can offer wines from ALL of the best cool climate regions in WA - Geographe, Margaret River, Pemberton and Mount Barker.
This is because Capel Vale was one of the first wineries to identify the viticultural potential in WA and over the last 35 years has located the best vine growing areas in WA and matched them to the most suitable varieties.
Premium quality cellar door exclusive wines are also available, which currently include the Mediterranean-styled Margaret River Cabernet blend (Gold medal winner at the International Wine Challenge) Geographe Viognier (Gold medal winner at the QANTAS Mt Barker Wine Show), Geographe Sangiovese and Geographe Tempranillo.
The choice of other merchandise is based on a selection of the best quality local producers and production from the kitchen including sparkling jam, Capel Vale’s own Dukkha and accessories such as Capel Vale coasters.
The restaurant is a regular in the finalists of the Catering Institute WA Gold Plate Awards and a corner stone of the wine and food experience that starts with the path to the door taking guests past the picturesque vineyards and “pottager” kitchen and herb garden.
Like their wines, the Mediterranean inspired cuisine focuses on local produce, with chef Julie Lawrence sourcing the best seasonal ingredients from the best local regions.
The service is efficient but attentive, overseen by Keith Warrick who joined the team from a two Michelin star “La Briquetterie” in Champagne.
Enraptured visitors can become “A Friend of the Duck” and join the wine club to enjoy special offers including the cellar only wines and back vintages. A new website is also to be launched in April 2008 allowing members to obtain information and purchase online.
