Scoop magazine hosted its mammoth winter wine tasting in early July. Western Australian producers were asked to submit Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and all related blends. Scoop received around 230 entries to the tasting making this the largest event to date for Scoop, and a great achievement for Capel Vale to be chosen for awards.
Our Regional Series 2007 Cabernet Merlot and Single Vineyard Whispering Hill 2007 Shiraz rated amoung the Top 4 wines of the tasting, with the Whispering Hill Shiraz also in the 'Best Varietal' selection.
We also received a bronze medal for the 2007 Regional Series Mount Barker Shiraz and 2007 Regional Series Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. The review for the Cabernet Sauvignon described the wine as "the darkest wine in the line-up, this wine is inky black with purple highlights. The bouquet of violets and cedary oak leads on to a mid palate of rich fruit and tannin creating a very strong, sturdy wine with great length and very good cellaring potential." whereas the Regional Series Shiraz was described as "shows fresh lively fruit with lifted red and black berries. While the wine is vibrant and ripe, it avoids being too broad or "fat". There are fine tannins and some gentle background oak."
